This area used to be a large city park. A collection of statues of Chinese folk heroes (eg Yue Fei, Zheng He, Confucius) was commissioned by a local biscuits factory and presented to the park. Families and children used to take pictures in this leisure spot. There were also many steamboat (hotpot) restaurants there (buffet style). This was a very popular dining spot when i was a school kid, particularly with the appetites of teenagers. This whole area was redeveloped with the new Marina Bay plan (eg Marina Bay Sands, Gardens By The Bay). The restaurants are now relocated to shopping centers and other locations, and the statues have moved to Chinese Gardens.
