Built in the 15th century, Church House was once the center of community life. At various times it was a school, a post office, an alms house and a police station. It is now a private residence.
When a thatched roof caught fire, the way to save the rest of the building was to quickly pull off the burning thatch. The hook hanging on the side of Old Church House was used to pull down thatch and, hopefully, save the house.
