I think I bought this one in 2004, in Rome. It was my first trip to the Eternal City, and I had been carrying with me Giuseppe Ungaretti's Allegria di naufragi ("The Joy of Shipwrecks", 1919). I had been deeply moved by a poem titled "Mattina" a poem written in 1917, where Ungaretti writes
M’illumino
d’immenso
(I light up
with immenseness)
It was sheer serendipity that I came across this t-shirt when I had just been carrying that book.
I wish I could remember the name of the book shop. It was a smallish one, probably at one of the ends of Via del Corso or something...
