University College, Dundee was an early pioneer of X-Ray experiments thanks to JP Kuenen (Professor of Physics) and Edward Waymouth Reid (Professor of Physiology). They began experimenting in 1896, just months after the discovery of X-rays by Rontgen in Germany. At the same time, Dr George Pirie was conducting his own pioneering experiments at Dundee Royal Infirmary. Keunen and Reid gave several public demonstrations of X-rays (generally known then as Rontgen Rays). This X-Ray tube was made by Cuthbert Andrews, the first British manufacturer of the new invention.
