Creator: Smithee on 7 Jul 2010, 5:23 p.m.

Self titled CD from JJ72. The band was formed in 1999 by lead singer and songwriter Mark Greaney and drummer Fergal Matthews, with Garvan Smith on bass, while studying at Belvedere College. The two recruited following Smith's departure, to complete the trio, playing gigs in Dublin. The band released their eponymously titled debut album in autumn 2000. A great critical and commercial success alike, the album has sold in excess of 500,000 copies in their native Ireland and in the United Kingdom. The album spawned the singles "Snow", "October Swimmer", "Long Way South", "Oxygen" and "Algeria", and saw the band perform promotional tours in Europe, the U.S.. However, on June 22, 2006, JJ72 issued a press release announcing they were to split up after seven years together. They cited a struggle with their record label as their main reason for the split. I played the CD to death on a hot summer of 2001 on a trip to France. There is something about the lead singers voice that evokes that trip. October Swimmer is a great track. The CD now sits battered in the office and is replayed mainly when i have a heavy work load.
