Icon painting (Skywalker) by Robert Orchardson, 1998
Born in 1976 and based in Dundee after graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone in 1998, Orchardson now makes bold and colourful sculptural works that are inspired by 1960s and 1970s design and architecture, as well as highly detailed paintings of figures and scenes from classic sci-fi films.
Orchardson took part in the DCA’s 10th anniversary exhibition The Associates in 2009, and has also undertaken a number of public commissions including a series of large scale lightboxes at Dundee City Airport in 2000.
