This heavy 36kg mechanical calculator (#4201) from ~1915 was built by H. Egli from Zürich, CH. It operates with a multiplication block, a procedure invented by the French Léon Bollée in 1889. This allows to make a multiplication with one single turn of the crank, and not by repeated additions as usual. About 4000 machines were built by Egli from 1890 up to 1930, relying on a patent by Otto Steiger. Divisions by multiplying with the inverse.
