The SS Politician was an 8000-ton cargo ship from Liverpool. It left Liverpool on 3 February 1941, bound for Jamaica with a cargo including 28,000 cases of malt whisky, but was wrecked off the island of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides
An islander from Eriskay samples some of the whisky rescued from the wrecked ship SS Politician. Sir Compton Mackenzie based his book and film 'Whisky Galore', on the story of the S.S. Politician.
