Lily Thomson spent her working life in the jute mills of Dundee. Since her retirement, she works as a volunteer at Verdant Works, Dundee's Museum on the Jute Industry, where she dresses in costume to demonstrate 19th century working practices. Jute workers had to provide their own tools. Lily took these scissors and darning needles to her first day at work, aged 15.
