Monart Glass was produced from the 1920s to 1960s at the factory of John Moncrieff Ltd, Perth. Monart glass owed its success to both the Moncreiff family (Isobel Moncrieff had an influential part in this) and the Ysart family who were skilled Spanish glass blowers. The Monart name grew from the collaboration of these two families. Salvador Ysart and his son Paul came to work at the factory in 1922 and created vibrant designs that were supplied to stores such as Liberty’s in London.

The film is a compilation which shows Paul Ysart making a Monart Vase at the factory in Perthshire along with a display of Monart Glass from an exhibition by Enterprise Scotland. This exhibition opened at the Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh in August 1947 and was intended to showcase the best of Scottish design. The colour clip shows how glass is made at Caithness Glass, Wick.
