This telephone was presented to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Patrick Joseph Dollan, in March 1939, to celebrate the installation of the 100,000th telephone in the city. Most people would not have a telephone at home until the 1970s.
This clip was filmed in 1935 at one of the exhibitions held around the UK by the General Post Office to explain how the telephone worked. It is one of many films made by the GPO Film Unit to promote the use of the telephone in the 1930s.
