It's a glass trophy I was awarded at the Annual Town Twinning Chess Tournament in Paris. I started to play competitive chess, after a 9 year break, in 2007. After a good first season playing for Worsley Chess Club I was invited to represent Salford in the town twinning chess competition. It was held in Paris and there were over 80 players from numerous towns twinned with Salford. I finished top of my grading and won this trophy. Thankfully it hasn't ended up being my last! The full title of the trophy is "2007 Tournoi de Amitié ELO 1300"
I only scored 4 out 7, but the majority of the players were rated much higher than me. The council sent us for 3 days at the end of November, where we met some very nice people talked about our home cities and strengthen Salford's international links. - definitely the more glamorous side of being a club-level chess player.
